Meet Michelle

Hi!  I'm Michelle!

I have been teaching private music lessons for over ten years.  My love of music began somewhere around 1984 (the year I was born, ha ha!), and got pretty serious when I started taking piano lessons in second grade.  Soon, many other instruments were added to my repertoire.  In fact, the first time I met my husband, I was slinging a sousaphone on one shoulder.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in music education from Millersville University, where I primarily studied clarinet and piano.  After graduation, I spent five years teaching elementary music in the Gettysburg Area School District before trading rhythm instruments and solfege syllables in for diapers and bottles.  Now a stay at home mom, I love staying connected to my musical roots by teaching private lessons.

I have experience teaching students of many ages, from 4 years old to 50 years old.  I recognize the individuality of each student and their unique styles of learning, as well as different goals.  I love to give students a well-rounded approach to learning music - of course we'll learn basics in theory and skills on the instrument, balanced with choosing repertoire which students find motivating and exciting.

I've been married to my percussionist husband, Herb, for 11 years.  We have two sons, ages 7 and 6 months.  In addition to teaching privately, I enjoy substitute teaching in all subject at our son's school.

I'd love to get to know you and coach you along on your musical journey!  I specialize in piano, clarinet, and guitar lessons.
